Colchester Rubber Co. was a footwear brand that was founded in 1888. Colchester Rubber Co. manufacture high-end rubber footwear for men, women and children. They become known for being the world’s first sneaker brand and inventing the “World’s First Basketball Sneakers”, which were created circa 1892. The original sneakers were made from vulcanized rubber and canvas. They were the first of their kind to protect the feet when sprinting, jumping and spinning on the gymnasium floor. The shoes have been updated with a built-in arch, cushioned insole, and metal eyelets in order to fit contemporary casual wear.
